Abstract
The purpose of this study is to overview the educational leaders' standards of America and to analyze the professional development programs for educational leaders in America and suggest some implications to Korean education. The educational leadership policy standards of ISLLC was described and two professional development programs - ExEL in Harvard University and EDP operated by NISL - were selected and anal analyzed to achieve the above research purpose. The results and implications to Korean system are as follows. Firstly, defining educational leaders' standards must take precedence in order to organize the professional development program for educational leaders. Secondly, in the perspective of pedagogy, various types of teaching methods based on adult learning theory should be developed and used. Thirdly, the professional development program for educational leaders should be developed by the need of consumers and designed for teams instead of individuals. Lastly, the supporting system for trainees are needed to provide necessary help for participants.
