Abstract
The purpose of this study is to identify the importance of supervisor’s abusive treatment to subordinates, so called GABJIL in Korea these days and analyze the relationship among supervisor’s GABJIL, subordinates’ affective organizational commitment, and perceived supervisor’s organizational embodiment. Specific objectives to accomplish the research goal are as follows: first, to identify the negative effects of GABJIL to subordinates’ work attitude as affective organizational commitment; second, to verify the moderation effect of supervisor’s organizational embodiment between supervisor’s GABJIL behavior and subordinates’ affective organizational commitment. Results of the regression analyses of the survey data from 120 office workers in Korea demonstrated that supervisor’s GABJIL behavior is related to subordinates’ affective organizational commitment negatively. Further, the relationship between supervisor’s GABJIL behavior and subordinates’ affective organizational commitment is stronger when individuals hold higher perception of supervisor’s organizational embodiment. The implications of the results for understanding destructive behaviors in the workplace are examined. Some implications, future research directions, and limitations were discussed.
