Abstract
Non-point source pollution such as rainfall runoff water are mostly composed of fine particles of 100 μm or less, so pollutants are easily adsorbed and attached to move. Studies on a filtration method using a coagulant are also being conducted to treat these fine particles with high efficiency, but the method using a coagulant has its efficiency depending on the amount of coagulant injected, so it is essential to inject an optimal coagulant according to the treatment conditions. Therefore, in this paper, a coagulant was injected into the upflow filtration column device to which the fiber ball filter was applied to improve the processing efficiency of fine particles, and the injection amount of the coagulant in the device was different to calculate the optimal amount of the coagulant injection and analyze the processing characteristics of the filtration device according to the change in the injection amount. As a result of the experiment, when the concentration of the coagulant injection to the influent water was 15.625 mg/L, the highest fine particle treatment efficiency was found with a turbidity average of 98.88% and an SS average of 98.76%, and above that, the treatment efficiency slightly decreased. In addition, as a result of calculating the backwashing efficiency through the calculation of the solid mass balance, the backwashing efficiency decreased as the amount of the coagulant injection increased, indicating that the injection of the coagulant had a direct effect on the backwashing. Therefore, when the high efficiency treatment is performed by injecting a coagulant into the upflow fiber ball filtration device, it is considered to be the most efficient and appropriate agglomerate filtration condition when the concentration of the coagulant injection is 15.625 mg/L.
