Abstract
The purpose of the analysis presented in this paper is for studying the versions of Kimhyun-gamho from a mythological perspective. A common motive found in all versions is the tiger’s attack and death, which is achieved by hunting. Therefore, we have assumed that traditional hunting rituals for preventing the revenge of tigers is present in the texts. First, the second half of the work presented points that discussed preventing the revenge of the tiger connected to the tiger woman’s suicide or sacrifice, and, based on this, diagnosed that the intention of this was for the purpose of avoiding revenge or evading responsibility, and was expressed in these ways. Second, it clarified that the narrative of the first half guarantees the version’s later story, which is based on hunting rituals, because of the sacredness of the God of animals presented at the end. In addition, the writer proscribed the first half is Shamanism’s narrative in the sacred space and the second half the realization of the hunt in the real place, because the structure of the works is divided by the boundary of the death of the tiger woman. Finally, after the tiger’s attack, the hero, Kimhyun, constructs a Buddhist temple and gives a remedy of hungryunsa’s (興輪寺) soy sauce or a trumpet sound. With this, the writer concluded that it changed the acting to stop the game’s resurrection or continuation of life by Shamanistic rituals, to erecting a temple or giving medicine, while maintaining the original function.
