Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze current operation status of graduate schools and suggest future improvement methods, especially in terms of comparing metropolitan and non-metropolitan graduate schools. This study analyzed longitudinal graduate schools data from 2008 to 2020, which is provided by Higher Education Information Disclosure System. In order to understand operational status of graduate schools, the data of 106 out of 185 graduate schools(58.6%) were analyzed. In addition, a survey was conducted on 120 deans of graduate schools and 50 University Evaluation Committee members to investigate improvement methods for graduate school system. According to the results, the number of graduate students is higher in Seoul metropolitan area, and foreign students are also increasingly concentrated in the metropolitan area. The survey result also indicates that the Seoul metropolitan area has higher quality of graduate education program compared to non-metropolitan areas.
