Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find ways to mitigate vocal fatigue in actors performing in long-term professional contracts or actors who feel voice fatigue after excessive voice use, and to suggest SOVTE and releasing excessive perilaryngeal muscles as a solution. At this stage, the goal is to actively maintain vocal health and encourage rapid recovery of the vocal organ. Vocal fatigue is the manifestation of local fatigue and weak voice symptoms after excessive voice use and can be defined as negative vocal adaptation that occurs as a consequence of prolonged voice use or vocal load. vocal fatigue in actors is inevitable because the requirements of the actor’s voice differ from the vocalization patterns used in daily life. This is especially acute in actors who need to create roles in the stage, and many conditions such as space, distance, and consideration for the audience act as factors that strain the vocal organ. While symptoms vary between individuals, primary symptoms include increased effort when vocalizing, laryngeal discomfort, shortness of breath when speaking, and tesion in the neck and shoulders. Additionally, individuals may experience hoarseness, pitch break, decrease in pitch range, decrease in vocal control, sore throat, and voice loss, especially if they continue to use their voice without intervention. Although many effective vocalization methods and exercises have been proposed, vocal fatigue which has already progressed due to prolonged vocal cords vibration or excessive vocal cord contact cannot be completely improved with these methods and exercises. Therefore, this study proposes two solutions to vocal fatigue: SOVTE using the principle of transglottal pressure as a cool-down routine that the actor can actively apply at the post-performance stage, and training to stabilize the larynx position and release the muscles around the larynx, which have been agitated by overactivity and compensatory action for maintenance of voice quality.
