Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the differences in consumption life satisfaction, the digital consumption and perceptions of groups classified by age and region, and to identify the factors that affect the consumption life satisfaction of each group. Statistics from 「2021 Consumption Life Indicators in Korea」 were utilized for this study – specifically, data from 3,591 respondents aged 55 or above. The main results of this study are as follows. First, the level of consumption life satisfaction was lower in metropolitan areas than in nonmetropolitan areas. Second, the levels of both digital consumption experiences, and competencies in digital information usage, were found to be higher in the pre-elderly than the elderly. Age group differences were observed in the levels of recognition of ‘digital information utilization’ and ‘trust in digital consumption environment’, while regional differences were observed for levels of recognition of ‘ease of problem solving’ and ‘sufficiency of education’. Finally, we found that the consumption life satisfaction levels of pre-elderly consumers in the Korean capital and metropolitan areas were greatly influenced by their levels of digital consumption life and perception. In addition, the perceived level of ease in dealing with online transaction problems had a common effect on the consumer life satisfaction of the pre-elderly. Meanwhile, the perceived level of digital education sufficiency had a common effect on the consumer life satisfaction of the elderly.
