Abstract
In this paper, the authors propose a novel design for a slim omnidirectional orthogonal polarization MIMO antenna for the base station. The effect of this antenna decreases the number of antennas needed at the base station compared to the space MIMO antenna. Designing a slim orthogonal polarization MIMO antenna is important issue because the space needed for each polarization antenna must be minimized. Because MIMO gain depends on the isolation between antennas, designing a slim orthogonal polarization MIMO antenna requires high isolation in a compact size. In this paper, the authors propose a polarization MIMO antenna with a Halo antenna and a patch antenna composed on the common cylindrical ground plane. The proposed configuration improves isolation by optimizing the relative angle of each antenna at the horizontal section view. Simulation results confirm that approximately 40dB of isolation can be achieved with a short diameter of 0.15λ.
