Abstract
The economic dispatch is the traditional topic of power system research. It aims to minimize the total cost of the generation to satisfy the system load. The system operators dispatch the generators according to the optimal power flow. Along with the rapid growth of the electric vehicle (EV) and other flexible loads, the demand side has important effect on the system operation. The EV has the ability to adjust itself with energy storage device, which is different from other fixed loads. In this way, the economic dispatch is becoming dynamic and complex. In this paper, the EV charging load is integrated into the optimization model of economic dispatch. Considering the price elasticity of the charging demand, the charging load from the EVs stations changes along with the price. Based on the economic dispatch rules, the effect of EV charging on the power flow has been analyzed. It would be an efficient tool to support the system operation when it keeps growing. The simulation is also provided to support the analysis.
