Abstract
Terahertz (THz) technology is recognized as an important solution for future high-capacity wireless access, which is expected to support a flexible and broadband wireless backhaul network. However, the THz links would suffer from severe loss and distortions due to the atmospheric effects at the earth-ground, including absorption attenuation and phase shift. In this paper, we analyze the attenuation of the line-by-line absorption with the Van Vleck-Weisskopf (VVW) and the Lorentz theories, and investigate the continuum absorption using the millimeter-wave propagation (MPM) model, where the line-by-line and continuum absorption form the THz atmospheric attenuation. In addition, the phase shift of the THz signals induced by wireless propagation is also analyzed.
