Abstract
Various wake oscillator models considering different damping terms are employed for predicting vortex-induced vibration of one degree-of-freedom rigid elastically mounted cylinder in the present work. Three distinct damping terms are considered, i.e. Van der Pol Type, Rayleigh Type and Van der Pol-Rayleigh Type. The dynamic behaviours of wake oscillator models with different damping terms are compared to provide better insights into the mechanism for flows to interact with vibrations of the elastically mounted cylinder. The results shows that the damping effect increases when different damping terms, in the order above, employed in the wake oscillator.
