Abstract
This paper presents the design of an automatic push coring device, the IUT APC-II, to be installed on an ROV. The purpose of designing the IUT APC-II is to improve the drawbacks of the prototype device, the IUT prototype APC. The volume of the new device is 17% of that of the prototype device. The in-water weight of the new device is 68% of that of the prototype device. Thus, it is easier to install the IUT APC-II on a medium size or small size ROV. The number of coupling components in the new device is 41% of that in the prototype device. The new device has independent sampling and tube-changing mechanisms driven by two separate underwater actuators. As a result, it is easier to disassemble and adjust the components of the IUT APC-II.
