Abstract
A two-switch enhanced gain buck-boost converter for low power applications is presented in this paper. Here, an additional switch is included which gives flexibility to realize quadratic buck-boost voltage gain along with lower peak-to-peak magnitude in its source current. Additionally, the proposed converter offers common ground and hence inverting output voltage polarity is eliminated. Extensive analysis is performed to identify the relevant steady-state and dynamic features of the proposed enhanced gain converter. With small-signal linearization, relevant transfer functions are formulated and later on adopted in voltage-mode controller design. A 50 kHz converter prototype with 48 Watt capacity is built for experimentation. The system performance is demonstrated here by providing key results obtained from prototype.
