Abstract
Concerns about energy production and use are prompting the search for alternatives to reduce the use of fossil fuels. The maritime industry is mainly dependent on these fuels. In recent years, electrification and the use of biogas have represented the best alternatives to achieve the energy transition. However, due to a lack of studies localized in Cartagena, Colombia, on the electric boat. We designed, implemented and commissioned an electric propulsion system for a boat to collect operational data and do the proof of concept. In the functional test, PV charging provided 56% of the energy demand, increasing the range. We found that independent propulsion systems increase fault tolerance, but can cause imbalance due to maneuvering. Also, the start time of sailing is fundamental to the performance of the operation.
