Abstract
This paper introduces a high-voltage pulse transmitter circuit, designed to drive an array of transducers in a 3-D ultrasonic imaging system. The high-voltage pulser in this circuit adopts a push-pull structure to reduce static power consumption, while using a floating-gate bootstrap transistor for isolation to ensure that the pulser does not break down at high output voltage. It is combined with a level shifter and a logic circuit in the front to form a high-voltage ultrasonic transmitter circuit with fewer high-voltage transistors and smaller on-chip area. The circuit has been fabricated in 130nm BCD technology as a prototype chip with 2×8 arrays, each with a size of 200μm×200μm. The circuit is capable of generating bipolar high-voltage pulses with a frequency of 5 MHz and a maximum peak-to-peak value of 50V at a load capacitance of 13pF, and the number of pulses can be programmed to accommodate different ultrasonic transducers.
