Abstract
This paper explores the design of packet scheduling policy in wireless sensor networks that feature adaptive packet and energy arrival. Using the metric Age of Information (AoI), we model the problem of minimizing the long-term average AoI as a Markov decision process (MDP) and propose a simple single-threshold policy in which the transmission is triggered when the gap between the receiver AoI and the data generation time exceeds certain threshold. We also derive the expected AoI performance and the optimal threshold in closed-form expressions.
