Abstract
Nowadays, the renewable energy sources (RESs) and distributed generation systems have a major impact in the electrical energy market. But they suffer from some uncertainties regarding the unpredictable conditions that lead to unwanted variations in the generated power. Frequency Regulation is one of the main concerns which is a challenging problem and a variety of controllers have been suggested for this topic. Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers will show admissible efficiency in several engineering problems if their gains and coefficients are tuned in an optimal form. Evolutionary algorithms can be utilized for this purpose. In this research Modified Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm (COA) has been used to adjust PID parameters for frequency regulation in microgrids. Stability margin, Overshoot, and settling time are indexes which will be taken into account to define a cost function in terms of the PID parameters and analyze the output response of the system. The simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of Cuckoo Optimization Algorithm in providing an improved performance of the frequency regulation for microgrids.
