Abstract
A rectangular patch antenna for wireless applications operating at 2.4 GHz is designed in this work. As the array size is increased from $\mathbf{1} \times \mathbf{1}$ to $\mathbf{2} \times \mathbf{1}$ to $\mathbf{4} \times \mathbf{1}$ to $\mathbf{4} \times \mathbf{2}$ to $\mathbf{4}\times\mathbf{4}$ patches, the directivity and gain of the antenna increases by upto 13 times. In this work, the dimension of the antenna using standard equations is determined; then the operational frequency, return loss, radiation pattern, directivity are fine tuned using Advanced Design System (ADS) software, and finally fabricated in our research lab. Various antenna parameters were measured using Tektronix TTR500 Series Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). The normalized radiation pattern for different antenna arrays are plotted which reflects the enhancement in directivity while using larger configurations.
