Abstract
Cybercrime has become a significant problem in today’s interconnected world, and as a result, law enforcement agencies face increasing challenges in tracking and identifying cybercriminals. The Tails operating systems are used by cybercriminals to hide traces due to its privacy and anonymity. The popularity of Tails operating systems among cybercriminals makes it increasingly difficult for law enforcement to track their activities. This paper investigates cybercriminals’ use of Tails operating systems and the challenges it poses for law enforcement agencies. The research methodology thoroughly analyzes the Tails operating system and its design features, allowing anonymity and privacy. The study also examines the forensic artifacts left behind while using Tails and their implications for cybercrime investigations. The research results provide valuable insights into the complexities of Tails forensics investigations and highlight the strengths and limitations of current forensic tools. Based on the findings, the study recommends a framework for conducting Tails forensics investigations. The framework considers the unique features of the Tails operating system and guides law enforcement agencies in conducting effective investigations. This study contributes to the ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime by shedding light on the challenges posed by the Tails operating system and providing a roadmap for effective investigation.
