Abstract
The problem of availability and reliability of the condition monitoring device for transmission and transformation equipment working at low temperature environment for a long time should be solved. Conventional batteries are usually used as the necessary input power of the monitoring device. However, the charge-discharge abilities of conventional batteries drop sharply in low temperature environment (less than 20% of their capacities at normal temperature), which becomes one of the important factors that restricts the stable operation of the transmission line state monitoring device in low temperature area. In order to select more suitable power battery for the transmission line monitoring device at low temperature, this paper selects the commercialized lithium-ion battery, Ni-MH battery, Ni-Cd battery and VRLA battery for testing. The results show that Ni-MH battery has better performance in the four types of batteries.
