Abstract
This paper introduces the experimental research on SGEMP effect at high power laser facility. In this experiment, high temperature plasma generated by high power laser is used as a high brightness X-ray source and X ray pulse irradiates on aluminum foil mounted on a metal cavity to produce SGEMP effect. Experimental results show strong X-ray irradiation excites photoelectron emission and induce SGEMP electric field signal on antennas. The short X-ray pulse with 3 ns FWHM excites SGEMP electric field lasting 42 ns with high signal-noise ratio. It also shows that laser plasma presents a good X-ray source to study some key processes for SGEMP effect for its transient and high dose rate. This study provides a means for studying the formation mechanism and evolution process of SGEMP photoelectrons at high power facility.
