Abstract
The rapid increase in fault currents and the susceptibility of power converters in doubly-fed induction generators (DFIGs) present significant challenges in terms of protection. Short-circuit faults can disrupt the normal operation of DFIGs, leading to electrical fires, equipment failures, and other critical issues. Therefore, an effective protection method is crucial. This study introduces a solution called the Hybrid Circuit Breaker (HCB), designed to swiftly and reliably protect the DFIG system and the grid. The HCB operates in two modes: firstly, as a Fault Current Limiter (FCL), and secondly, as a circuit breaker. Rigorous mathematical analysis and simulation results confirm the effectiveness of the HCB in preserving the DFIG system and the grid.
