Abstract
To provide electricity to the peoples of unelectrified remote off-grid areas, the household standalone photovoltaic (PV) system is an impressive solution. However, traditional off-grid PV systems use ordinary PWM or square waver inverters, which provide a poor quality output responsible for rapid reduction of the life cycle of electrical appliances. This paper presents the design and development of one-kilowatt capacity single phase pure sine wave standalone photovoltaic inverter using Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) with an output voltage having the same magnitude and frequency of the grid voltage. The SPWM signals used to drive the H-bridge inverter circuit were generated using Arduino. The simulation was done on PSIM for primary design, which provides a 50Hz, 220V rms AC sinusoidal output voltage. Based on this simulation, a hardware prototype was developed whose experimental test-bed results corroborates profoundly with the simulated ones ensuring proper viability of the proposed system.
