Abstract
The Inrush current is a low-frequency transient phenomenon that occurs when energizing an unloaded single-phase or three-phase transformer. The magnitude of this current can be several times greater than the nominal current of the transformer or up to magnitudes similar to the fault currents (depending on the closing angle of the switches with respect to the input voltage to the transformer). This magnitude can cause incorrect operation of the differential protection and can also cause mechanical and thermal damage to the transformer. In this sense, and with the purpose of being able to analyze the main characteristics of the phenomenon, this work presents the analysis of the Inrush current measurements of a bank of 9 kVA three-phase transformer and the Taylor-Fourier technique is used to obtain its harmonic content.
