Abstract
Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have become an important field of research due to their numerous potential applications in various domains, including environmental monitoring, healthcare, and surveillance. One of the most prominent protocols in WSNs is the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH). However, the performance of LEACH has been outperformed through modifications to its parameters and algorithms. In this paper, a new version of LEACH, called REACT-LEACH, uses a novel reactive clustering approach leading to better energy utilization and increased network lifetime. The comparative analysis presented in this paper reveals that REACT-LEACH outperforms other versions of LEACH, making it a promising solution for energy-efficient and reliable WSNs. The presented mathematical equations provide further insight into the energy consumption of both protocols and reinforce the superiority of REACT-LEACH over other versions of LEACH.
