Abstract
This study presents a methodology for estimating the energy impacts of harmonic distortions in Public Lighting Systems resulting from the application of LED technology for road lighting. To achieve this, the specialized literature was consulted to establish fundamentals about Power Quality and harmonic distortions, presenting concepts and the primary disturbances caused by nonlinear loads, such as LED luminaires. Additionally, laboratory measurements related to Power Quality (PQ) were conducted on various samples from different manufacturers to apply the IEEE 1459:2010 Standard Definitions for the Measurement of Electric Power Quantities Under Sinusoidal, Non-sinusoidal, Balanced, or Unbalanced Conditions Method to calculate harmonic losses with the widespread use of LED technology.
