Abstract
This paper presents the optimal rotor configuration and phase angle of the applied voltage for singlephase line-start high efficiency interior permanent magnet motors with start-up and synchronization capabilities under full-load torque. The rotor configuration with the excellent start-up and synchronization capability has been obtained from the simulation results using the finite element method. The rotor was designed, built and used for measuring the starting performance characteristics. It has been found from the experimental results that the proposed motor has the excellent start-up and synchronization capabilities under full-load torque. In addition, it was clear that the motor can start up and pull-in under 130% of rated load torque by the optimal combination of the phase angle and initial rotor position.
