Abstract
The fractional slot non-overlapping winding causes the magneto-motive force to constitute of a high amount of harmonics. This in turn results in undesirably high output torque ripples and increased losses of the wound rotor synchronous machine. With a purpose to limit these negative aspects, a 3MW, 18 slot, 16 pole, double layer wound rotor synchronous machine with a six phase winding is designed and analyzed. From a basic three phase design a dual three phase is formed. Finite-element simulation is used to compare the conventional three phase to the ’pseudo’ six phase machine.
