Abstract
In this work, electrical and spectroscopic performance of large volume coplanar detectors is presented. The interfacial layer theory developed for the metal-semiconductor Schottky barrier was applied to these detectors. The diffusion limit, a less general and more simple approach, has been studied and its results were compared with the ITD model. Spectrometric results using classical techniques are presented for a new unit The detector M0904 confirmed that its design of coplanar anodes provides an acceptable balancing between anode weighting potentials. The spectroscopic properties at different interaction depths have been studied by making use of a multi-parametric digital system. An adaptation of the digital setup is applied to the study of the waveforms generated in the preamplifiers matched to the electrodes. Achievable resolution in the calculation of the photon interaction depth is quantified by making use of this setup. The interaction profile at different depths of the detector has been compared with that expected in ideal detectors. Induced charge waveforms at selected interaction depths have been analyzed in order to study the deviations found between simulation and theory in the interaction depth profiles. The causes are attributed to trapping effects in the detector bulk. By digital signal analysis, the mobility of electrons in these detectors was studied.
