Abstract
Micro/nano engineering can provide for new capabilities in cancer diagnosis. Biological samples, for example, blood and urine, have complicated components that interfere with the detection of cancer biomarkers. To overcome the challenges of detecting targets with high sensitivity and specificity from real-world samples, we recently developed technologies to isolate extracellular vesicles that contain cancer biomarkers from blood samples. Nanomaterials and nanomaterial-integrated microdevices are key to achieve high performance, while system integration and instrumentation will be key for technology adoption.
