Abstract
Rock dumping has been successfully applied in submarine cable protection, while there is currently no experience in rock dumping construction on for super large, suspended submarine cable. This paper focuses on the handling of the hidden danger of a large suspended submarine cable in the South China Sea, conducts an force analysis of the submarine cables under the impact of falling stones, and develops a detailed process program and quality control requirements for rock dumping protection. A new method has been proposed that the rock dam designed as “bottom layer “M” rock dam + inner layer of small rocks + outer layer of large rocks”, which has pioneered the completion of the rock dumping protection and repair of oversized suspended submarine cables. That is a brand new construction technology and the first successful application on oversized suspended submarine cable in China.
