Abstract
The MMC-HVDC system is a key technology for the long-distance transmission of large-scale offshore wind farms. However, different from the current active start strategy based on both ends. The MMC-HVDC start strategy applied to offshore wind farms can only be charged from one end. So this paper first designs a start-up control strategy for the MMC-HVDC system suitable for wind farm access. Taking PMSG-based wind farms as an example, the refined model of an MMC-HVDC system connected to wind farms is established in PSCAD/EMTDC. The simulation results verify the validity of the proposed start-up control strategy. Then, different fault types such as wind farm faults and short-circuit faults on the DC or AC sides of the MMC-HVDC system are simulated and studied. Through the analysis of the fault data of AC voltage, DC voltage, and active power obtained from the simulation, the system's fault characteristics are summarized to support the research of the coordinated control strategy between offshore wind power systems and flexible DC transmission systems.
