Abstract
We analyzed and measured the intrinsic modulation characteristics of a hybrid modulation laser with a medium cavity length of $410~\mu \text{m}$ . The intra-cavity loss modulation Section acting as an external cavity induces both a gently sloped modulation response at high frequencies and the photon-photon resonance effect in a directly modulated laser, which can efficiently widen the modulation bandwidth. We analytically and experimentally confirmed that a wide 3-dB E/O bandwidth of more than 124 GHz can be achieved by using a hybrid modulation laser.
