Abstract
Summary form only given. We have recently reported high output power and narrow beam divergence InGaAs/AlGaAs tapered laser array (TLA) devices with a mm-long cavity at 980 nm wavelength for applications in laser surgery, materials processing and fibre laser-pumping. For higher output powers, thermal rollover can be reduced by the use of longer devices, due to lowering of the series resistance and thermal impedance, provided intra-cavity losses are sufficiently low. We report the results on 2 mm-long 200 /spl mu/m broad area and narrow divergence TLA devices.
