Abstract
Optical Ethernet is a revolutionary technology that pushes the development of Ethernet from several Mb/s to more than ten Gb/s by making use of the tremendous bandwidth of optical fiber. The development of optical Ethernet has significant impact on the existing networks, especially for switching enormous traffic and providing differential network services. In this article, based on providing priority services, we propose an efficient switching architecture design, which can be built in a single switching chip, to cope with the forthcoming issues. In addition, we designed a set of simulation experiments to investigate the performance of the switching architecture. The simulation results display extraordinarily good efficiency in switching traffic.
