Abstract
Imaging is an inevitable part of modern medicine. Imaging is normally the process of obtaining images using light waves. It can also be obtained by electronically tracing something such as sound waves, temperature, and chemicals. Different types of medical imaging procedures include X-rays, Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Computerized tomography, etc. Ultrasound is a widely used imaging technology worldwide due to its non-ionizing nature, speed, and less attenuation by body tissues. In this paper we propose an affordable ultrasound system that gives a 3D profile of surfaces by acquiring the ultrasound echoes from the surfaces. This proposed system comprises of HC-SR04 transducer, a high-frequency data acquisition device (NI-myDAQ), and a microcontroller (Arduino) enabling the acquisition of 3D surface profiles and determination of the shape of an object. The data acquisition of the proposed system was carried out using Matlab software. The acquired Ultrasound echo is similar to an A-scan in Ultrasound imaging.
