Abstract
The shape of filament slick structures on the sea surface is often associated in literature with the structure of inhomogeneous currents, but the contribution of wind drift to the kinematics of upper ocean layer can be significant in the conditions of moderate and fresh winds. The kinematics of passive markers on the sea surface in the presence of marine vortex and homogeneous drift current component is investigated analytically and numerically. It is shown that even when the vortex characteristics are fixed, the impact of drift current on the near-surface current can significantly change the geometry of the passive markers trajectories. The predicted appearance of a saddle point in the streamlines structure is observed in the field of horizontal velocities obtained using the MCC method.
