Abstract
This paper presents a novel 6-inch 4.5SkV reverse blocking-integrated gate commutated thyristor(RB-IGCT), which has a current turn-off capability of 500A and reverse voltage blocking capability of 4.5kV. And it is expected to be used in DC converter valves to help the grid system to solve the problem of commutation failure actively. According to the application of the power grid, a special gate unit for drive (GUD) was designed for RB-IGCT, and new technologies such as black start, low power consumption, signal encoding, and logic control were developed. Finally, a 10kV RB-IGCT module was designed, and a test platform was built to study the turn-off characteristics and reverse recovery characteristics of the RB-IGCT, then the turn-off characteristics of the module is analyzed. The research and development of RB-IGCT are of great significance, and it is expected to be widely used in future power grids.
