Abstract
Over the past thirty years, the rapid technological progress has sparked numerous breakthroughs in the area of the Information and Communication Technologies. This has resulted in the creation of numerous engaging, innovative and interactive methods for visualization, promotion and presentation of the historically significant landmarks and the objects with cultural value. The use of the new technologies and solutions has provided many new opportunities and possibilities for the cultural and historical institutions, but it has also presented a new set of challenges, including the costs of the digitalization and visualisation equipment and the related software products, the need for training of the unexperienced personnel and the abundance of regulatory constraints. All of these disadvantages have contributed to the slower acceptance and the delayed introduction of the technological innovations in the museums, galleries, libraries and other cultural institutions. This paper provides an analysis on some of the most popular approaches and methods for digitalization of tangible and intangible cultural and historical heritage. It also explores the ways to utilize of the digital content for the visualization, presentation and promotion of the heritage objects and sites.
