Abstract
The container transport in the hinterland of seaport container terminals has to become more efficient. A better physical infrastructure is only one step to reach this goal. Another indispensible step is the expansion of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). After the introduction in the first chapter the actual situation of research and development in container terminal management and ICT is discussed. The availability of ICT and the need of new ICT systems in hinterland container terminals are part of the second chapter. Questions like ‘How must an ICT system for hinterland terminals be designed?’ are generally answered here, too. The identified fields of action are described in third chapter. Chapter four is about the case study Berlin-Brandenburg flagship project InnoSHV (Innovation Seehafen Hinterland Verkehr). In the conclusions chapter are the findings and the results from the case study are described.
