Abstract
Radar systems employ numerous data processing methods to estimate the length — or range extent — of a target under track. The most common of these methods extract this estimate from multiple radar frequency (RF) measurements along the radar line of sight by taking an average, filtering, or using gross assumptions of target orientation. In this paper, we will propose an alternative methodology based on probability distribution parameter estimation that explicitly includes a model of target orientation and radar measurement accuracy.
