Abstract
With the blooming automation industry and ever-increasing wireless connectivity, it is possible to connect all the devices within home through IoT. Automation of home appliances improve comfort, helps to manage our energy usage efficiently and reduce electricity bill. The main objective of this paper is to design a simple Arduino and Nodemcu based cost effective home automation system. In this project apart from switching of appliances (e.g., light bulb), speed control of ac fan and brightness control of incandescent bulb is achieved using same Nodemcu board. The speed and brightness control are achieved by using triac-based phase angle control method. In this paper Blynk 2.0 IoT platform is used as common gateway for control mechanism of devices. A local wi-fi connection is used for communication between devices, Nodemcu board and android phone. All the functionality like switching, speed and brightness control are handled by Blynk mobile app created in smart phone from where all the devices can be controlled with the help of internet.
