Abstract
This study uses Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create a novel smart vehicle inspection system that can give electrical engineers automatic inspection functions such as the location and condition of electric towers and the degree of insulator dirtiness. The study is focused on the exterior contamination detection of Extra-High-Voltage (EHV) transmission towers in Taiwan. The intelligent UAV system is being developed in order to perform transmission-tower inspection quickly and accurately, as well as to change the inspection vehicle's flight path with simple, convenient, and intuitive settings. This will significantly reduce the amount of manpower and financial resources needed and further improve the reliability and security of power feeding into transmission grids with a view toward reducing economic losses and complying with social etiquette.
