Abstract
We have studied inter-layer solid-state reactions in multilayered thin-films consisting of CH3NH3I (MAI) and PbI2 prepared by alternating infrared laser deposition. The PbI2 precursor layer with the thicknesses of 30, 60 and 150 nm was completely converted into a lead halide perovskite layer by the complete inter-layer solid-phase reaction with MAI, whereas the unreacted PbI2 layer remained when the thickness of the PbI2 precursor layer was 300 nm. The result suggests that there exists a critical thickness formed by the unreacted PbI2 precursor layer, which can be an indicator of the density of grain boundaries and defects in the PbI2 precursor layer and in the reacting halide perovskite layer.
