Abstract
This paper proposes fast 2D maximum likelihood (ML) angle estimation in order to reduce computational complexity and to enhance 2D angle separation ability. The proposed consists of two steps. The first step is independent 1D ML azimuth/elevation angle estimation, and the second step is 2D ML angle estimation to find the minimum of the evaluation function among the limited angle candidates based on the independent 1D ML azimuth/elevation angle estimation. The proposed method is implemented to the MIMO radar with unequally spaced L-shaped Arrays. Experimental measurements have been done for verification. Consequently, our work proves the effectiveness of the proposed fast 2D ML angle estimation for MIMO radar.
