Abstract
This paper presents some experiences concerning the testing of generating units response to frequency transient. The tests have been performed both for modeling and monitoring the compliance of the settings of the generating units with the operational requirements. A test methodology, based on mathematical modeling, is developed and proposed. The approach is intended to interfere (or disturb) less on the normal operation of generating units in order to limit the impact of the test on system operation. Suitable post-processing algorithms are presented, test recordings are analyzed to estimate the main generator parameters and settings related to frequency control. The proposed approach is validated through real cases obtained from the experience in the West African Power Pool (WAPP) interconnected system.
