Abstract
This paper presents design of truncated equilateral triangular microstrip antenna designed for circular polarization. The antennas are labeled as (a) Antenna Type1; truncated tip triangular patch antenna with parasitic element and air gap and (b) Antenna Type2; truncated tip triangular patch antenna with parasitic element, air gap and FSS screen. The simulated impedance bandwidth of the antenna type1 is about 287.8MHz from 3.52 to 3.81GHz; the 3dB axial ratio (simulated) bandwidth is about 56.6MHz from 3.63 to 3.69GHz. Furthermore, a frequency selective surface (FSS) is used in antenna type2, the impedance bandwidth can be further increased to 289MHz (3.53GHz–3.82GHz), and the 3-dB AR-bandwidth is greatly enhanced from 56.6 to 169.1MHz.
