Abstract
In this paper, a new metaheuristic techniques i.e JAYA Algorithm is suggested to determine the size optimally and locate the shunt capacitors for compensation of active power in distribution system. Radial distribution system is becoming vital in transmission of power from power station to customers. So, radial distribution system suffers real power loss and low bus voltages. This issue can be solved by adding capacitors at optimal location to lower active power losses and to upgrade the voltage profile while satisfying constraints of radial distribution system. Determination of stable size and location of capacitors optimally in distribution system is a complicated optimization problem. So, it requires a different approach. The main function is power loss minimization which is determined by optimal sizing of capacitor. In the paper the proposed algorithm is incorporated for solving the problem and the work has been simulated in IEEE 33 bus system and IEEE69 bus system with single node injection and triple node injection of capacitors. The results of the suggested algorithm are analyzed with other existing optimization algorithm in respect of up- grading the voltage profile and reducing the power loss.
