Abstract
We make a quantitative comparison, in terms of cost and power consumption, of future 400G transceiver modules that could be used for intra-data center communication. The current characteristics of proposed transceiver modules, along with their advantages and drawbacks, are initially presented. Possible migration paths towards 400G and beyond transceivers are also discussed. Estimations for the cost and power consumption for scaling a DC using the Facebook’s Fabric architecture using different modules are also presented.
