Abstract
A number of commercial bulk graphites has been assessed in terms of a range of properties. The graphites include pyrolytic, nuclear, electrode, mechanical, extruded, and isostatically pressed. The quantitative properties examined, some of which were determined along and across the grain, include bulk density, apparent porosity, electrical resistivity, flexural strength, and Knoop microhardness. The comparative properties examined include microstructure, pin-on-disk wear loss, amount of amorphous carbon, degree of alignment, and degree of anisotropy.
